SUMMARY:"Too Many Barriers: Experiences of Abortion in Ireland after Repeal"
DESCRIPTION:Public launch of the results of ARC’s research into people’s experiences accessing abortion in Ireland since the Repeal of the 8th Amendment\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBetween 2019 and 2021\, the Abortion Rights Campaign (ARC) developed and conducted an extensive research project to evaluate individuals’ experiences of Ireland’s abortion services. This event will publicly launch the results of that project\, giving valuable insight into how Ireland’s abortion services are working from the patient’s perspective\, and highlighting the many barriers to care that still persist. \nWe will have a presentation from data analyst Dr Lorraine Grimes outlining the key findings and recommendations to improve abortion service provision in Ireland. Additional speakers will highlight the barriers to care in law\, medical practice\, and on the ground\, as well as what needs to change in the upcoming legislative review. \nThere will be a brief Q&A session at the end. \nIrish Sign Language interpretation will be provided. \nSpeakers: \nLorraine Grimes is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Social Science Institute at Maynooth University on the project ‘Digital Preservation of Reproductive Health Resources: Archiving the 8th’. She has worked on projects including the World Health Organisation project ‘Reproductive Health: The Implementation of Abortion Policy in Ireland’\, and has a number of forthcoming publications focusing on unmarried motherhood\, maternity care and stillbirth in Britain and Ireland. \nMary Favier is a General Pracitioner in Cork. She is a founding member of Doctors for Choice Ireland and current co-chair of Global Doctors for Choice. \nMairead Enright is a Reader in Feminist Legal Studies at the University of Birmingham and a founder member of Lawyers for Choice. With Fiona de Londras she wrote Repealing the Eighth: Reforming Irish Abortion Law (2018). \nMara Clarke founded charity Abortion Support Network\, which has been helping people cross European borders to access abortions since 2009. She can’t wait until the amazing groups campaigning for abortion law reform make ASN obsolete. \n

SUMMARY:Breaking Barriers: 10th Annual March for Choice
DESCRIPTION:The 10th Annual March for Choice takes place on Saturday 25th September 2021. Mindful of public health concerns\, we will hold a socially distanced\, static rally for free\, safe\, legal and local abortion access at Dáil Éireann. \nDate: 25th September 2021 \nTime: Assembling at 1.45pm\, rally commencing at 2pm. \nPlace: Outside Dáil Éireann\, Kildare St.\, Dublin 2. \nThe theme this year is: Breaking Barriers. \nDespite the historic referendum result in May 2018\, there are still far too many barriers to abortion in Ireland. Mandatory waiting periods\, refusals of care\, arbitrary gestational limits\, limited service provision\, and enduring abortion stigma can all delay and prevent someone from accessing the abortion they need. The cumulative effect of these barriers is felt most keenly by those already marginalised\, including LGBTQ+ people\, migrants\, Travellers\, disabled people and those living with domestic violence. The ongoing global pandemic has compounded those structural inequalities. Despite the pandemic\, at least 10 people a week travelled from Ireland to England to access abortion in 2020. \nIn 2021\, Ireland’s abortion legislation is due to be reviewed. We believe that abortion should be available to anyone who wants or needs one – free from stigma and shame\, without apology or restriction. We will keep marching\, working and fighting until all of the barriers to our reproductive rights and bodily autonomy have been broken. Join us on September 25th to show the government that we won’t stand for anything less than reproductive justice for all. \nTransport \nIf you are planning on travelling to the March from outside Dublin\, please get in touch with your local pro-choice group regarding transport. \nPublic Health\nWe encourage all attendees to follow current public health advice to limit the spread of Covid-19. While this event is traditionally a march\, this year we will remain in one location for the duration of the demonstration to limit the risk. \nAccessibility \nAs always\, we want to make the March for Choice to be accessible to everyone who wants to attend. We know that the barriers to abortion access are often replicated in other spheres of life – including protest. We believe that no one should be prevented or discouraged from attending the March due to accessibility issues. \nWe will have accessibility stewards and sighted guides available\, as well as some seating for those who need it. As in previous years\, we will have Irish Sign Language interpreters for the speeches. In order to facilitate those who are unable to attend in person\, we will be livestreaming the event on our social media pages. \nIf you are planning on attending the march and would like any accessibility assistance\, please get in touch on: info@abortionrights.ie \n#ARCMarch21 #BreakingBarriers

SUMMARY:11th Annual March for Choice
DESCRIPTION:The 11th Annual March for Choice takes place on Saturday\, 24th September 2022. Mindful that we are still living through a global pandemic and public health concerns\, we will hold a static rally for free\, safe\, legal\, local and accessible abortion care outside Leinster House. \nDate: 24th September 2022 \nTime: Assembling at 12.45 pm\, rally commencing at 1 pm. \nPlace: Outside Leinster House\, Kildare St.\, Dublin 2. \nThe theme this year is Abortion on Demand\, Without Apology. Speakers to be announced. \nWhile reproductive rights are under attack worldwide\, our government has failed to provide free\, safe\, legal\, local and accessible abortion services for all who need them. \nWe believe abortions should be available throughout pregnancy for anyone who wants or needs one\, free from stigma and shame\, without apology or restriction. \nJoin us on September 24th at 12.45 pm outside the Dáil to show the government that anything less than free\, safe\, legal\, accessible and local abortions for everyone who needs them\, when they need them\, leaves far too many people behind.
