It’s the perfect combination! \nPaddy’s Day is our national celebration of Ireland but let’s not forget that Irish women have being fighting for bodily autonomy for decades!  \nAnd it’s our job to be global ambassadors and EDUCATE people on R E P E A L (while we of course drink pints).  \nIt’s easy\, just post a pic of yourself or your pint using the hashtags #pintsforrepeal #repealthe8th.  \nIf you live abroad: You can donate money to The Abortion Support Network\, who provide financial assistance to those forced to travel for an abortion. \nIf you live in Ireland: We are asking Irish people to donate 8 for the 8th. Simple\, just donate €8 to the Abortion Rights Campaign or Coalition to Repeal the 8th.  \nOr why not have a pub quiz\, host a bingo night\, throw a talent show\, raffle off something silly\, round up mates for pints and ask for donations\, whatever it is that you can do in YOUR local area to raise awareness and help raise funds for pro choice movements? To register your team name and members\, please post in this event. \nAll funds raised will go towards fighting for equality for the people of Northern Ireland and supporting all those forced to travel to obtain abortions across these islands.  \nMore information about A and B: \nIn 2012\, a young woman\, aged 15\, had to travel to England with her mother to access abortion services that she was unable to access in Northern Ireland. She was also barred from accessing NHS abortion services in England and her only option was to pay for the services of a private clinic. We are calling the young woman “A” and her mother “B” to protect their identities. The experience was deeply traumatic for A\, who was 15 at the time\, and was made worse by the stress of B having to raise nearly £1000 as they had limited income (they were fortunate in obtaining some financial help from the (wonderful) Abortion Support Network). A&B feel very strongly that women from Northern Ireland should not have to suffer such devastating experiences. \nA and B now wish to make a prompt application to the European Court of Human Rights after their appeal to the Supreme Court was narrowly dismissed on 14 June 2017. They are calling on the support of the community to help them pay for the legal expenses of bringing their case to Strasbourg. The case raises important issues on reproductive rights of women from Northern Ireland who are UK citizens but face discrimination when trying to access abortion services in England. \nDespite the government’s recent decision to fund NHS abortions in England for Northern Irish women\, it is important for A and B to continue their fight to the ECHR.\n– A and B are entitled to compensation for the discrimination they have suffered\, and the stress and anxiety caused to them. \n– A and B’s case is that women from Northern Ireland have a fundamental right not to be discriminated against in the provision of abortion services by the NHS in England\, and their access to services should not be dependent on the whim of the Government of the day. \n– It is now more important than ever that the Government’s justification\, used to persuade the Supreme Court\, is carefully examined\, as the Government has completely abandoned it. That ruling may have repercussions in many other areas. \n– Little is known about the details of the deal – A and B want to ensure that other women from Northern Ireland have a meaningful way of accessing funding. It remains unclear whether Northern Irish women will continue to be blocked from NHS hospitals in England; and whether they will be able to access the promised funding ‘up front’. Our gallery demonstrates that those who choose to travel to have an abortion are responsible\, ordinary women and are members of our communities. They are our neighbours\, friends\, colleagues\, mothers\, daughters and partners. X-ile Project is changing the nature of conversations around abortion from the grassroots up. We believe that abortion rights and the corresponding discussions should be led by the women affected\, not by politicians. \nIn recent times several women have come forward through various media outlets to share their abortion stories. X-ile Project builds on the important work undertaken by such women. We believe that it is vital to strengthen links between women who have travelled for abortion services\, and to present such women as one cohesive group and as members of our community. Our website launched on 10 December 2015 with our first group of 11 photographs. Our second group of photographs was launched on 23 February 2016. The third group of photographs was launched on 9 June 2016. We continue to seek participants for our online gallery into the foreseeable future.\nIt is the time to confront the abortion issue in Ireland and Northern Ireland\, and to build toward a more progressive future where women are heard\, respected\, valued and trusted. We are committed to the destigmatisation of abortion in Ireland. We stand firmly in support of the 160\,000+ documented women who have travelled to avail of abortion services. \nX-ile Project is proud to be a member of the Coalition to Repeal the 8th Amendment. Repealing the 8th Amendment is vital for all women in Ireland who require abortion services\, especially women who cannot travel for various reasons including lack of means\, migrant or refugee status\, disability\, or personal circumstances. \nX-ile Project is a grassroots organisation that runs on an entirely volunteer basis and is not funded by any outside organisation. \n*X-ile Project is inclusive of trans men and non binary people.
